Valentine's Day Party
EmmaAll of our classes will soon be celebrating Valentine's Day.  Mrs. Zegers' and Ms. Zweber's classes will celebrate on Thursday, February 12, and Mrs. Marsh's classes will celebrate on Friday, February 13. Your child may bring Valentine cards for each class member. We will send home a list of all the names of the children in your child's class. If your child can read and write, he/she may put the children's names (recipients) on the envelopes. If your child cannot yet easily read and write, PLEASE, we beg you, just have him/her (or you) sign his/her name to each card, without putting the name of the recipient on the envelope. He/she then can simply put one card in each 'mail box' without having to worry about the correct delivery of each valentine!

Summer School
Kai & Mac
It's time to start thinking about Summer School. We will be having one morning class that will be Monday - Thursday. You can sign up on a weekly basis so fit us into your summer plans. Watch for more details to be coming soon!
Snow Day Review
SnowOur snow policy is the same as the Central Kitsap School District. If CKSD closes school for the day, we will also have no school. This enables us to spread the news through radio, TV, and online. If CK schools are delayed by 2 hours, there will be no morning school. If CK schools are delayed by 1 hour, come if and when you can. Please do not take unnecessary risks. If there are more than 4 snow days during this school year, we will make them up in June. Click on the link below to see school reports.
Sign Language
The month of January has been an exciting month for sign language. We have started putting words together to sign complete sentences! Some sentences your child might enjoy signing are: "I like cats." or "I want to work with you." or "I don't want a frog." Try using some of these new signs in sentences with your child, I'm sure you will enjoy it! :)

Bringing Montessori Home
 Montessori at Home
Why not extend your child's Montessori experiences to your home life.  We spend a lot of time helping your child to become independent and responsible.  Here are some ideas that you can use at home to continue in that effort.  Remember our motto:   Help me to do it myself!

The Hall
~Hang a coat rack at 'children's height' so that they can hang up their own coats, scarves, etc.  Show them how to hang their coat by the 'loop' or by the hood.

The Bathroom
~ It is best if your child can reach the sink, turn on the water, and reach his toothbrush and toothpaste without help. Perhaps a good stepstool will work.

The Kitchen
~ Make room in your kitchen for a child-sized work table for young cooks.
~ Make a low shelf on a wall for plates, cups and napkins so that your child can set the table.
~ Set aside the bottom shelf in your refrigerator and/or pantry for your child to help himself to healthy snacks and drinks. Here you can store small drink pitchers, fruit and the ingredients for making sandwiches and snacks.

Bedroom
~ Hang a bulletin board at your child's eye level on which he/she can choose art work and school papers to hang up.
~ Don't use a toy box. Imagine the chaos in your kitchen if you threw all of your utensils together in a chest. Instead use low shelves to display books and toys. Place toys with many pieces in containers, such as baskets.  Baskets can easily be 'toted' to another room.
~ Make sure that your child's clothes chest has drawers that are the right height for him or her to open and look inside. Label the drawers with words and/or pictures: shirts, socks, etc.

The Family Room
~Have an 'art drawer' or two.  Fill them with construction paper, glue, water colors, tape, scissors, stickers, rubber stamps, coloring books, etc.  Creative children will spend hours 'working' from this drawer.

Kid Quote of the Month
When Mrs. Zegers told the children that it was Mr. Zegers' birthday, one child asked, "Is he bringing in cupcakes!?"
